i need help with my server

well im run my old dekstop as a server for all my music and videos and other junk i dont want on my laptop, now i was looking for away to shut down the server remotley and i found a way to do that by making a short cut but my question is u need a computer name, now the way i found to do it is u make a short cut and type shutdown.exe -i adn then when u open it it was u need a computer name, i no the name of the computer (server) and i type the name in a bunch of diffretn ways like //server/ or server or //root/server bc root is my work group, and it said somthing about u using the ip adress in the name....and im a lil confused on what to do.. can some one help me bc im really lazy an di dont feel like getting outta bed to turn the computer off at 4 in the morning, it would be greatly aprecated if some one can email me @ [email protected] thanks dennis

o yeah i forgot to add all computers run windows xp
 
so lets say my ip address was 255.255.255 so would it look like //server//255.255.255 or //255.255.255//server/ or am i totaly doign it wrong? and i never really no a good time to sent it to bc i always up diffrent hours so i cant really set it to a time but that was a idea tho

LOL you could just try it you know :P (it would be the neither, I dunno why you add 'server' it's just //ipaddres :)

and I never really no a good time to sent it to bc I always up diffrent hours so I cant really set it to a time but that was a idea tho

I saw this a few years back regret now buying it but its a little keychain remote that uses the WOL and kills/starts your PC wirelessly hehe
 
well i added the server bc it said computer name and i thought that it would work but i jsut tryed it //ip and it didnt work so im guessing im doing somthing wrong
 
i tyed the remote admin and its pretty cool but takes up way to much resources and it takes even longer to transfer files is there an program that dosent stay in memory pretty much just click one button or type somthing and it shut th computer down instead of staying in memory and watching the computer?
