I Need Help!!

I got a Compaq Presario C300

it was all fine but now and then it starts 'clicking', I contacted Compaq but there shit, they told me to download something but it aint helped, it actually aint clicked for awhile but its started again earlier...

I got told it was the Hard Drive because its clicking at the front of the Laptop near the Speaker, I also rang Currys aswell but they weren't much help...

im not sure what to do, its really annoying in the nights when its quiet and its just constantly clicking, I got told it does it when loads of programs are running but all I got running at the moment is this Internet Browser,

is there anything I can do at all? i've had the Laptop for nearly a year now, it first started clicking a few months after I bought it but didnt really get round to taking it to PC World/Currys to get it sorted, and like I said.. it stopped for awhile but its started again...

so, anyone know?

Its probably the hard drive, most do make a "clicking" noise but some are louder than others. How loud is it? If you take the side panel off can you tell if it coming from the hard drive, you can place your hand on top of it when it starts to see if you can feel it when its clicking. Be careful if you do so because if you touch the wrong thing while its on static from your hand/finger can fry it..
 
Its really loud... I dont want to take anything apart though,
im not sure what it was that Compaq told me to download though,
im pretty sure it is the Hard Drive though because i've asked a few people and they've said its the Hard Drive, im just wondering if theres anyone else on here with the same Laptop and are having the same problem??
Im not sure why it does it, and then stops for weeks or whatever, and then starts again etc etc, especially when im not doing anything on the Laptop.
 
O i thought it was a desktop, sorry... i wouldn't take anything apart either lol. It could be the hard drive or the optical drive, my hard drive on my laptop gets fairly loud. But theres nothing you can download to fix the noise.
 
sadly it sounds like your hard drive is dieing so if its still under warranty I would get it replaced asap and get your files off of it
 
Bummer, I dont think it is under warrenty actually, cant remember, think I bought it a month or couple of months before Christmas last year, the problem is though is that if I take it to get fixed, their going to send it off, and I work off my Laptop so I need it everyday 24/7 basically so i'd be abit stuffed, guess i'll just have to buy a new Laptop :( im thinking a Mac...
 
Remember that MACs aren't compatiable with alot of things.

I say buy an cheap HDD off EBay or something. 20GB should be enough... then pull out the old HDD out an place it in its caddy, install Windows, and your pretty much set.
 
yea you don't need a new computer just a new hard drive and norton ghost to transfer you whole hard drive over and I wouldn't get anything below a 80 gig hard drive
 
Yeah this Laptop is a 80GB, plus I bought a 320GB External Hardrive because I got over 100 Albums downloaded so bought that to keep them all on instead of using memory on my Laptop...

I think I might just buy a new Laptop though, give this one to my friend or whatever, I cant be fused buying a new one and then transfering everything and etc etc etc lol

but yeh I suppose i'll just have to put up with the clicking until I do get around to buying one I suppose, thanks for all your help anyway :D
