I need more RAM but no capacity

Hi
I have an Advent Modena M202. It's got 4GB RAM but I need more. I think 4GB RAM is it's capacity. I'm starting to use After Effects (Adobe) and it's just freezing up on me.

Is there a way around this? Is there any such thing as an external RAM drive? Or do I just need to buy a laptop with more RAM? Thanks

The freezing is probably some other reason. If its running out of memory it will just use virtual memory. Which is slower but should not be freezing up. Plus really its a pretty lowend laptop. Just has a Celeron T3500

Maybe freezing was the wrong word. When I load a large After Effects project it takes ages to RAM preview and then I get the "not responding" status in task manager.

So, I guess you are suggesting I look at a new laptop with higher specs. For a "RAM hog" like after effects, obviously the more RAM I can get the better. Should the second thing I look at be the processor? Any recommendations? Thanks.
