I just aquired a laptop and the disk is completly wiped. I want to install XP on it but i am getting sucha run around and I am not computer savvy and I am a tight wad. I bought XP home and never even opened the box before I heard that I bought the upgrade version which i guess wont work if the disk is completly wiped and that the version I need is 80 dollars more than I really care to spend. Is there any way I can do it cheaper? Someone reccomened downloading bootleg version off the internet but Im not into bootleg software nor do I trust it or know if it will work. If anyone has any advice on installing it for less than 200 dollars that would be just peachy.:D

Go to Newegg.com and buy an OEM copy of Windows for $89. However, if you have an old windows cd (98,ME,2000, or XP) you can use your upgrade disk still.

Its an acronym for – Original Equipment Manufacture. What this basically means is that, when a vendor is selling a OEM version of a product (hardware & software) you’re only getting the product alone without factory packaging, manuals, support etc..

I ordered the Windows XP home oem version. Since my disk is completly wiped will it install okay or is there generally problem installing these type of things?
