Hello everyone,

I want to share my internet connection to my two computers by connecting a router RJ45 to a something like switch and then connect those two computers to that box also by RJ45 so I will have access to the internet in the same time.

What device which you will recommend to me ? I have looked on eBay but switches starts from five and are very expensive. I'm looking for something which only have 3 ports and is cheap.

Any help will be appreciated.

What router do you have, anyway? Most consumer grade ones already come with 4 LAN ports that could easily facilitate your requirement.

Any reason you can't just 'not use' the extra switch ports in the interim?

Also, not sure what your definition of expensive is but it's usually not difficult to pick up an 8 port unmanaged gigabit switch on sale for around $25. Here is 5 seconds of googling:

hmm ...
I'm thinking about switch but does data flow around when for example you want to send message then it flow trough all ports and then trough router ? Which device is the safest option to expand my router ports ?

P.S I can spend to maximum $50 not more.

You'll get broadcast traffic on each port (such as DHCP discovery packets), but not data that isn't destined for your specific PC like you would with a hub. Only data destined for your MAC (as well as FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF) will be forwarded down your port. This is different than a hub where all ports see the same traffic.

Beers thanks for easy and clear answer , that help a lot :)

BTW We can close the thread as I bought switch yesterday.

Thank you all for help :]
