I need to buy a tablet

I'm going to take a flight to another state and I don't want to drag a laptop around so I need to buy a tablet. I want it for email. Google map, browsing the web because I'm looking for a house to buy so I need to look up realtors. I don't need apps. To use a tablet anywhere don't you have to pay your IPS provider? Otherwise go to a coffee house and hook up to their Wi-Fi for free? I sure don't want a windows 8 tablet and I don't want to spend over $300 so does anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking at a 7 inch tablet. I'm thinking about "Asus Google Nexus 7 Jelly Bean 4.1, 32GB, Wifi" for $250?

If you are travelling a lot, I'll mostly suggest a phone, tablets are good for their screen size, as reading is easier.
Nexus 7 is among the best for your needs. But like I said if you are travelling a lot and don't have much wifi then phone is best.

Unless there is wifi available on the plane, you won't be able to access the internet while in-flight with a wifi only tablet. That said, a 32G Nexus 7 will allow you to store enough movies & music to keep you entertained for a flight and will be able to do email, surf the web, Google maps, etc... when wifi is available.

Another vote for the Nexus 7, it's a great tablet at only $199. Also, even if you had a 4G tablet you couldn't use that while in flight.
