hello i am sick of windows vista i want to format my laptop and install windows xp please help i do not know how to do it.

You need to make sure that there are XP drivers for all the hardware first before you screw up your vista installation. My suggestion would be to get a new harddrive and try installing XP on it and see if you can get all drivers installed. You would need to boot to the XP install cd and follow the prompts.

Why so sick of Vista? Once you disable UAC, it's not a bad OS imho. What's caused you so much trouble that you're ready to downgrade?

So quit looking at porn? :P

Listen to Johnb, make sure you find all the XP drivers for your laptop. You may also have to slipstream your XP install with the drivers for your motherboard or hard drive.

Then follow this procedure and I'll help you clean it up.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here, here, here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If you continue to experience problems after doing this, please post a HijackThis log by doing the following:

Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log

Hello tom32,

Just a piece of advise when reformatting your laptop. Make sure that you have saved your important files in a separate drive. If you have a partitioned HDD then that's good. You can save your important in a different drive, that is if you are only reformatting the drive on which your previous OS is installed. Second, you need to download or prepare the drivers of your laptop hardwares. All you need to do is insert the Licensed Windows XP OS in your CD Drive and you are all set. You just need to follow the instructions for the installation of the Windows XP OS.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,
