I am on a secondary pc as my main pc was locked. I need your help fast as it says it only has 48 hours until the ability to unlock not available any more.
Today, I was working on updating my minecraft server until the screen suddenly came up with a message saying my computer has been locked by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). For the most part, the message seems legit but they're are a couple things that don't make since to me:
I also found some articles on Google saying that this is a scam/virus and that there is a way to remove it. Yes, it is very clever that they would be using the FBI to get to people but this really needs to be stopped if it is a scam.
I need your help on determining weather it is a scam or not. I will link you to a picture that is very similar to what my desktop monitor is showing at this very moment. The only difference is that mine has my pc IP address in the huge empty space.

Today, I was working on updating my minecraft server until the screen suddenly came up with a message saying my computer has been locked by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). For the most part, the message seems legit but they're are a couple things that don't make since to me:
- Why would the FBI spend this much time to make the message look nice if it is something that does not need all the graphics.
- There is no phone-number or any other contact information on the page to contact them in case of a dispute.
- They are trying to make me pay $200 through a GreenDot MoneyPack card. I would think they would make me go through court or they would at least come to my house and tell me to pay up.
- Why would they only block one computer on my network, why not block my entire network?
- The page has security labels: one saying McAfee SecurityAlliance and the other stating "This site is secure." If it is a notice then why would it have to be secure and even if it did then why use McAfee, I would think their security would beat the hell out of McAfee
- I would think they would come to my house to tell me in person
I also found some articles on Google saying that this is a scam/virus and that there is a way to remove it. Yes, it is very clever that they would be using the FBI to get to people but this really needs to be stopped if it is a scam.
