I need (want) a new graphics card

cuda cores is all it has over the 6850. The 6850 is clearly superior.

If you could go up to a 460 then it would be a closer fight.
 
"cuda cores"? Are those the same cores being discussed before? Or is it different?

I think because of the price, the 6850 is looking like a better option for me over the 460, as I can get the 6850 for about £100.

Performance wise though, is the 460 technically better than the 6850?
 
Cuda is the Nvidia version of Direct compute from AMD. It means that the GPU can process data the same as the processor in a supported program like autoCAD or photoshop.

Nvidia cuda cores are different from AMD though, but just think of it like this. 1 Nvidia core can process 5 types of data. AMD uses 5 cores to do the same job (1 core per type of data). Basically they do the same thing, just in a different way.
 
you can not just look at it by core count like that. The 460 has 336 cores. the 6850 has 960. I would put the 460 ahead, but its actually a pretty even match I think.

Ok well I think at the moment its looking like the 6850 but I will do a bit of extra reading before I make a decision.

I know yeah complete rip off. That's why I was concerned that one card was somehow superior to the other because of the price for some reason... The £5 amazon cables are great I have a few of them
