I need your input

I'm looking into putting together a new system, I'll play games on it, but I don't need anything hardcore (I never turn the game settings to max or anything like that). Here is what I am currently considering

amd 64 x2 5200+: 157 (newegg)
ati x1900 gt or nividia 7900 gt ( or something around $150)
1 gb of ram

thats all I've come up with so far, I know nothing about motherboards so I could use some help with that. Also need advice about the power supply, cases, and and anything else you can think of.

I'm shooting for $500-$600.

ps
is it better to have 2 512mb sticks of ram than 1 1gb stick?

It is better to get 2 sticks of 512mb dual channeled, but then again, it is very suggested to get 2gb (2x 1gb) instead.

The Core 2 Duos are also often recommended and if you can wait there should be a price drop on July 22nd.

As for that computer, well provided you go with AMD.

not that I actually plan on doing this, but would it be faster to get 4 512mb sticks instead of 2 1gb sticks of ram. Or is the advantage only for 2 sticks (seeing as it is called dual channel not quad channel)?
