I new , need help

hello everybody. I have a old presario 5000 with xp pro.My screen went black even when i try to reinstall xp i get the message 'any button to boot from cd 'or whatever it say before u start reinstall then screen goes black but i took harddrive out and put in another old compaq and it work fine
 
sounds like hdd has crapped out...

does it make any noise...even a whine..?

I just worked on my roomates s5200nx compaq and it did the saem thing...but her hdd was definately toasted!!

It then wanted to boot from a disc that wasnt there and she was getting same errors//

Maybe thats not the case with yours but...

but i have it in another computer now and it works excellent and i put another hdd in that same computer worked for about 2 days then back to same thing again but ill get another hdd and see if it does the same thing
