I got a deal on the i/o magic dvd burner, installed it and went to burn a 700 meg movie that i had downloaded. The burner said that it would take 7hrs to transcode and burn the dvd. So i let it run its course and of course it didnt work. the burner has a burning speed of 16X, and the comp is a p3 800mhz, 384megs of ram. what am i doing wrong or is the burner just a piece of crap. help.....i think i may have to return the burner.

I installed an IO Magic on my old computer (about the same, 850mhz, 40gb hdd) cause two years ago it was the only burner that was under $100. I had some difficulties finding programs that would work with it. But the burner itself has nothing to do with encoding the movie to a different format, that's a software issue. If it didn't convert it to standard dvd files (or vcd/svcd if your dvd player supports them) it won't play in the dvd player anyways. Try playing the movie off the disk you burned in your computer, if it works then you don't have the right file format for your dvd player. Back to the burner, I wasn't very impressed with it overall, but I eventually got it to do everything I wanted it to.
