OK, here's the challenge....who can price out the best custom PC for under 300 bucks?
it should have the ability to:
run XP
rip / manage enormous amounts of music (we're talking 250+ CD's)
watch DVD's flawlessly (no hiccuping!!)
burn cd's / dvd's in under 2 / 6 mins.
run photoshop without hiccuping

can you handle it? barebones are 100% legal in this challenge.
winner gets a cookie....yeah, thats right, a cookie.

[i will not be held liable for allergic reactions due to chocolate chips, oatmeal / raisins, or any other delicious type of treat baked at 350~400 degrees fahrenheit.]

no no no, its not about that dear friend, its a competition to see who can scratch up the best performance for the lowest price.

If XP is included in the price of $300, then good luck with that...

Onboard Intel X3100 GFX with the new Celeron(Conroe)...

intelcrazy, not bad.....but i was hopin for somethin more than a damned celeron...its gotta run photoshop :P

hint hint....
tigerdirect.com
check out the barebones...

Not a bad build, drop that 320 gig to 160 and u drop 30 bucks off the price. Other than that you can't do much better for $300. $300 gives a very basic budget build, you can search ebay for a used system that has a p4 w/ht but thats about the best you can do.

come on....do i really have to show you guys up on my own little competition?
bear with me, ill have the specs posted in a minute.

oh, i have a good idea of what i want, i just know that this forum is filled with geniuses, so i figured id see what everyone else had to say :P

im fairly sure it did....and if it didnt, ill settle for a 7300 and a 200G HD.

i dont play by the rules, i just make 'em and hope nobody double checks me........
did i mention my other name is george bush? :P

ha ha lol. It's all good. :P

I tried. Mine came out to $361 w/ XP Home. It might be easier if you didn't include the OS. Technically, Windows can be transfered from another computer.

oh, i know.....whats it come out to without XP home??....
[we americans have our ways of cheating microsoft out of OS's.....i am NOT in any WAY, SHAPE, or FORM a supporter of pirating software, nor will i ever promote it....on this website.....im simply an advocate of purchasing something once and using it indefinitely :P ]
