I Really Need Help on this one please

hi, just got my new computer bits yesterday, all set up, but its very unstable! i think hardware-wise its quite sound, and its fine in safe mode, but whenever windows runs normally, i get freezes, blue screens of death and loads of other random crap like random resets.
even on a fresh install of XP pro its like this.
does anyone know of a way to install a 64 bit operating system from within a 32 bit environment? because it would all be ok if i could figure out a way.
my specs are:

motherboard:
DFI LanpartyUT RDX200 CF-DR

GPU:
ATI Radeon X1800 GTO

CPU:
AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+

and some random ram.

during windows installation (OEM) i also get some erratic behaviour, like some files not copying across correctly and stuff like that, system hangs and random resets are quite common.

please give me a hand with this, its really bugging me because i can normally figure these things out, this ones got me stumped :D

EDIT: SORRY, WRONG SECTION

cheers

i had one just like it. ram failure. freezes, failures, barely get past installation of xp pro... resets... ect. RAM failure, get from microsoft or somewhere ram86 or memory86 (something like that forgot the name) just look for a ram tester. if not then the cooling may not be effective.

Be sure you're not overclocking, check your temps, maybe even underclock.

Can you test your "random ram"? Or how about some more info? Dual channel? Same speed? Or just a single stick?

thanks guys, ill check my sticks. ive got 3 different speed sticks in the machine but they worked fine on my old socket A motherboard, this one must just be picky.
ive got 512mb ddr400
and 512mb ddr333
dual channel should be ok
just removing the 256 stick i had in there also seems to have done something, as windows 'copying installation files' wouldnt get past 18% before, its currently on 52% fingers crossed.
thanks again

remove another stick and get to 75 % :D just kiddin, you might have damaged the memory from touching it.. static and your skin oil... there might be 2 bad sticks, take one out, if it doesnt get better put it back in and take the other out.. try and error  good luck bro

nah, i think i hit the nail on the head with the 256 stick, as its the oldest. its like the hooker of the group, i paid the most for it and its been in all my machines :D
SEEMS ok at the moment.
