I really need help

So here is the problem my desktop computer boots to the screen where I select boot windows normally or safe mode and all that and after the count down it runs goes to the XP load screen then restarts. My computer does this all the time so I know its fine the problem is the ps2 ports just died is there any other way do be able to select a choice on a USB keyboard.
 
Once your USB keyboard has been installed, it should work - or at least, that's the way it was w/ mine - still not sure I fully understand why, but before I installed my new USB keyboard under Windows, it wasn't recognized upon booting - then, after Windows identified it and installed it, I was able to press Del to enter BIOS, F8 for safe mode, etc etc... But I digress... :P

Let the countdown run out and load Windows, allow it to install your keyboard, then see if it's recognized in the boot environment ;)
 
I would but after the countdown it looks like its gonna load then starts the whole process over again. windows has recognized the keyboard though before the problem happened
 
Can you buy a PCI PS/2 card? That's the only other option I can think of - I think that you could update the BIOS to recognize USB inputs, but I don't know how you'd do that without inputs to begin with... or you could repair your PS/2 port - but I don't know much about it, and I'm sure it would involve soldering - prolly a YouTube video on that...

I think the former would be much more feasible - here's one for $8 plus shipping:

Just because its not detecting the PS/2 ports should not keep windows from booting. If the ports are really out you should be getting some kind of bios error before windows even boots.

You could use a USB keyboard/mouse, just cant use them in the bios unless USB support is enabled, they would still work after windows boots. But if its just restarting its not going to matter much.

Have you tried resetting the bios in case its just a hiccup.
 
Yes I did. I did everything I could possibly think of and nothing worked. In the end I ended up just putting linux on it because I got the new version and wanted to play with it but i am thinking about getting windows XP and putting it back on it.
