Alright I have a compac I belive it is a 2002 I really am not sure what modle it is but for my problem I don't belive it will matter well it came with a 30gb harddrive and only 1/2 512kb RAM but I added another half so now it has 512kb of ram in it. Now my problem is that every now and then it will just turn off for no resone, most of the time it will turn off when I am running about 5 windows and it will take me like 5 mins untill I can turn it back on. I am posotive I have no viruses, trojans, worms, or anything. Can someone please explain to me why this is happening and how I can fix it? I am so confused please help.

I don't typically mention grammar issues, but I kind of stumbled through this and had to read it twice, so....spellcheck.
Anyway, did this start happening right after you added the extra ram? Or has it been in there awhile and it just now started.

Sorry about that I was in a hurry. No it din't happen after I added it it was after I moved up to NY. It was about maybe, 2 weeks after I was up here and it just started doing it for no resone at all.

I would say it might be your power supply. My laptop did this during my fall semester and I found out I had friend the motherboard from having it plugged in too much. Theres a few possibilites...give it a little bit, I'm sure someone on CF can help you out.

Whoa man, Right click the Red Underlined words and put correct spelling in, That was Difficult to read.

Ok,

I Think it may be a RAM Problem, So do you still have that other Stick?

Or did you never have two?

Sorry I'm not on firefox at the moment it kinda runs slow and shuts it down. No I have both sticks in it right now it's only a total of 512kb I'v been thinking i need to add atlest another half gig.

Try taking a Stick Out,

If it still Screws up

Take other stick out, and replace with one you took out before.

Try That.

By the way.

Its 512Mb Not Kb

Theres no way in hell you could even get the POST Screen up with even 512kb man...

I really do agree that it is the power supply, because I really doubt that RAM would cause shutdowns. Bad RAM really causes freezing, blue screens, restarts, or alot of beeps and not booting at all. If you have not experienced any of these symtoms in your PC then I would say power supply. How old is this computer anyways? Usually the model will be right on the front panel.

Man haha that computer would not of POSTed, lol let alone run XP lol.

Don't make me pull out the old 486 Hanging round my closet... haha

Well... The thing hasen been turned on in years so i forget haha.

Remove CMOS Battery for 20 mins (too make sure)

Then Re-insert it GENTLY
