I spilled water on my computer this evening...

So a glass of water I had on the computer desk was knocked over by a cat. A decent bit of it went on the case and I'm pretty sure got inside. My speakers started making a strange sound and I unplugged everything. I wiped it off as best I could and plugged it up and tried turning it back on and nothing happened, the fans spun up and the lights came on but only for a second before shutting off again. I then read online that this was probably not the best thing to do. It is now open and drying in the warmest place in my house. What can I do? Is this the right thing to do? How long should I let it dry? Do I have a chance of it still working?

Thanks so much for reading and I really appreciate any help.
 
You could disassemble the computer and leave all the parts on towels to soak up any water, let the parts dry out for a few days.
 
Hopefully when you powered it back on right after wiping it down...nothing got fried and/or short circuited. Always leave sufficient time to let electronics completely dry before even attempting to re-connect them to power supply.

Bad move. I hope you didn't fry anything already! pull out all the parts can pull out. Use a hair blow dryer to blow dry everything you have in there. That is what happen lastweek when I ACCIDENTALLY turn over a cup of water on my laptop. I take apart what ever I can and blow dry the computer.
