I think its a virus, please help

I think I have a virus, every time my virus scan starts it starts like normal, then it either pauses it self or freezes. When it does this my whole computer freezes or runs so slow it takes 10+ min for anything to do anything. As well. I can’t get to the start menu or use any programs. I have to restart the computer. I have checked task manager and it doesn’t show anything running that would be slowing it down. Also when it does this I can’t stop or pause or cancel to virus scan. I tried to do system restore, but they are all deleted. I saved a new restore point and it will stay there, but as soon as the virus scan starts the restore point gets deleted. I am using bitdefender.

NOW IT WONT LOAD AT ALL, I PLUGGED THE HARD DRIVE IN TO A DIFFERENT COMPUTER AND IT WONT LOAD AT PRIMARY DRIVE OFF THE OS BUT I CAN SEE IT AS A SECONDARY DRIVE. HERE IS MY STORY.

Can anyone Please help.

if you own virus scanner wont run, try downloading one of the virus rescue boot discs

both the above have rescue cds
 
I've had experience with viruses as bad as your as saying. Unless you know the virus name (which I am assuming you don't), you will probably have to re-install windows.
