I think my dad put some sort of keylogger on my computer

Is there any way to see if there is a keylogger installed on my computer? I know my dad put one on my mom's computer and my sister's computer. He rarely goes on mine, but I just want some privacy and I don't want him knowing everything I do on the computer. Would it show up in the task manager?
Here's a screenshot of it

download HiJackThis, google/yahoo it, then run a scan with it, click the 1st option in HiJackThis.

BTW: it will make a log pop up in Notepad

ok I did that and I got this

use the onscreen keyboard for private stuff, atleast till you get it off. The logger I have messed with hide deep into system files. Hard to find unless you know what you're looking for.
If you suspect the hardware type, Look on the back of the PC for a device inline on the keyboard connection.
Maybe you can get some info at keylogger.org

Also check the PS2/USB port ;)

If you're really paranoid, frag the box and use something like DeepFreeze hehe

This here- Dell My Way is actually a form of adware/spyware so if it's in your add/remove programs, get rid of it.

If your father put it on there, and your not doing anything wrong, then there's no reason why it shouldn't stay on there, when your own father put it there. IMO Learn some respect for your parents :)

Just my .02 cents, Take it for what its worth.

Trust and respect works both ways and no-one should install a keylogger period. That is spying. There are other ways to deal with this issue like parental controls, etc.

Parental controls do much of the same thing. They just "block" and then log everything they do :/

Yes, but logging isn't needed.A parent can password protect it and set it to block adult sites, etc and that's it.If a site is blocked, the kids know why and there's no spying going on.

While I agree that there are other, usually better ways of monitoring the child's use of the computer; if the machine (and internet) is provided by dad, then dad can do whatever he wants.

If the kid has nothing to hide, then there shouldn't be any worries about what the theoretical keylogger is recording.

Fact is, I know exactly what web sites my children visit-- through built-in logs in Win and through the access logs in the firewall. My kids know it and they know what happens when they go places they aren't supposed to.

There seems to be opinions on both sides of the fence here. And i certainly don't want this to turn into a debate.Even if one doesn't have anything to hide, it's called privacy which is being eroded more each passing day.And being 'Sneaky' and installing a keylooger isn't the 'Moral' way of handling the situation.Be open and honest and explain what is allowed and not allowed and parental controls are being put into place to ensure this. Now everyone knows the rules and there's no 'Spying'!.

So then, i quess you shouldn't mind then if your wife installs a keylogger to monitor your activity right!.

As a matter of fact, no. She knows what I do whilst on the internet and I have nothing to hide.

I do agree that honesty and being upfront is the best policy, however, a parent does have a right and obligation to monitor the children's internet activities.

My Dad would have to keep re-installing it for everytime I reformat. :P But I've earned their trust. Truthfully, I'd just sit down and talk to my parents about that, because mine wouldn't touch a thing on my computer, but maybe they have reason to do so for you.

parents > children. as long as the children are living under the parents roof, and are dependent on the parents, shutup about it. Not trying to be a jerk, but that's what is wrong with a lot of kids these days. lack of respect for their parents.

why would you care if there was a keylogger? if you're not doing anything wrong you should be fine.

you're not doing anything wrong are you?

It really dosent matter weather ur doing anything wrong or not. Its the principal of the issue. Trust works both ways. If his parents have a reason to believe hes doing something then by all means put it on. But if his parents dont trust him from the start just bc of what a kid could get into. dosent mean the kid will get into it. i believe in respect for the parents but seriously the children need to be respected to. And part of respect is privacy.

Actually, I would not care, as long as she installed one that takes up little system resources :) I like my PC tweaked for maximun effencey :) I have nothing to hide, and only good could come of that keylogger :)
