When ever I turn on my computer it freezes at the eMachine screen and the HD makes a crunching sound. The only way I can even boot from a CD is by removing the HD. Specs are in sig. Please assist. Thanks!

Hate to say it man, Afraid it is a hard drive failure. Maybe fried. How old is the machine/hard drive. If you have recently opened your Computer, check to see if the hard drive is wired. You probably have a hard drive failure.

As I always say, if you can hear abnormal sounds from the hard drive, chances are it's a goner. There's probably not much left you can do but purchase a new drive.

I'm thinking of getting a new drive and then selling the computer and buying a Mac Mini. How do you like yours? Does it run pretty well? Also, how much do you think I could get off my rig if I bout a new 120GB HD? Thanks!

I think what everyone is trying to say is that Emachines is known for being an entry level PC or bargain PC "player".

Anyways thats really irrelavent to your situation. In regards to your question unless you either

A. Dislike Windows Xp
B. Do a ton with pictures photoshop and all that jazz
C. or lack desk or room space

I see no real reason to pick up a MAC mini. You have a solid CPU, decent RAM etc.

I just looked on Newegg.com Your looking at about $50-$60 for a 160gig hard drive. In case you were curious about going that route.

Hehe! A,B, and C all apply to me. I HATE Windows (let's not get into that). I love doing photo and video editing and the space I have to put a computer is very limited. It gets pretty tight. I like the portability of a Mac Mini too. Thanks for the help!
