Help!!! I have a computer with windows ME that will turn on. When I turn it on, I get one long beep and three quick consecutive beeps. And the monitor just says
no signal input
. PLEASE HELP!!! I have no idea what to do and i have all of my important files on there. HELP

Did your computer come with a manual or do you know what kind of motherboard/BIOS you have? That beep is a BIOS code telling you what's wrong.

I got the computer from a friend, and all it came with was the computer and the monitor, no manual. I looked up the beep codes and I found that there is a video adapter failure and it is because of a bad video card or memory. Now what? What do I have to do to get it working?

P.S. There is no internet on the computer!

are you using onboard video or an expansion card?

make sure the video card is plugged in securely and is getting power if its an expansion card. if its onboard i would just check the cable and make sure it is secured and pushed in all the way.

if its an onboard video failure theres a serious problem with the motherboard, I'd say its an expansion card that is partially unseated or is dead. If it's dead you just need to get a new video card and put it in

control panel> ssytem properties.> > hardware > device manager> display adaptors> click the +.

or right click desktop, properties>> settings >> should say your monitor on [your graphics carrd]

OH yeah, sorry.

erm, get a screwdriver. >> open the side of the case, make sure the cards are fitted in properly..

Ok so do you have an integrated video or an actual video card? (i.e., can u remove it -- easily)?

OK, forget about this. My computer just miraclously started up and it is working fine

Sound like something was loose. You might want to open your computer and make sure the video card and ram in good otherwise it might get loose again and stop working again.

Does anybody have anymore suggestions because the computer just doesn't work every once in a while and I think it has to do with the video card.

Have you checked all the connections? Checked that your card is plugged into the long thin slot securely?

If so is the computer still under warranty? Either way I'd take it to a store and get them to test it for you.

I actually didn't buy the computer myself, and it is old, so it is definately not under warranty. I also don't know how to mess with the inside of the comptuer.

ok, unplug everything from the computer. Put it on wooden floor, tile or anything that isn't rug/carpet. Use a screwdriver and open up the side of the case. THen look for loose plug, reseat the videocard.
