I think this mobo is dead

I have an old socket 754 MSI mobo. When I disconnect everything from the mobo and turn the power on, it works fine. But, as soon as I connect an IDE cable to it it will no longer turn back on.

I made sure that all the screws were tight and nothing was loose.

...I don't think anything is shorting out...

Any ideas or do I just have a bad board?

I would confirm that nothing is shorted out first. Sub the cable and drive to be sure.

whats connected to the ide, that might be dead?

First I connected the hard drive via IDE and it did not turn on. Next, I tryed connecting only an optical drive via IDE and I got the same results.

I have replaced the battery and the power supple.

This PC shutdown in the middle of a reload and has been "dead" every sense.

Any ideas?

Does the motherboard post when you have JUST the IDE cable connected (no drives on it)?
