I think we have a winner. What do yo guys think?

Lol I was just about to ask and post that exact same link and ask if it was worth the extra $100. Good call man , !

So why quad core? I always thought they had more problems than dual core? Maybe that was when they came out but I swore they weren't performing well. So more speed obviously ( 8 MHz instead of about 5 found in the p8700) and keeping it cooler by doing so? Sorry om not that good with all the computer tech stuff Also what does the faster drive do?

what exactly will you be doing with the laptop? the quad-core my not be necessary for you.

ahh, didn't even see that. yea, definitely shell out the extra $100, it's more than worth it.

Yeah, 2 significant upgrades over the original choice for very small price increase!! and the quad's hdd's are actually dual 320GB..nice to have 2 physical hard drives over a single 500GB :P

And, on a side note..ASUS laptops are awesome, I have owned 3 different ones over time and they all were excellent in quality and specs.

Warranty/customer service is great too

Thank s for the replies. So with a quad core and the faster dual hdd , what does that do? I suppose your right about shelling out an extra 100 since they seem to be quite a good upgrade

As far as use. Everyday Internet, just starting to get into pc gaming a bit. Music and video software, editing, building construction programs

Stuff like that. Is there a reason why it was said a quad core might not be for me? Is there a downfall to them at times?

they are better for gaming, multi tasking, and i cant think of any downfall, maybe more heat? but asus laptops are good, so i wouldnt worry about it.

Hmmmm..... I hate buying new electronics. It always ends up you look at buying something that was 50% more than you wanted to spend :)

I originally was going to go with the new asus g60 I believe?? It's the one for 999 on best buys site. All 3 of the ones we all mentioned have the same gpu. The one for 999 is also 7200 rpm hdd but just a 320 gb and has a p7400 CPU. So what one do you guys think is the best bang for the buck. Between the one for 999, 1199 or 1299

In this case if you were looking at the 999.99 originally and bump up to the 1299.99 thats only a 30% increase! Not the 50% you feared!!!

The Q9900 quad is a newer, better, and faster CPU over the others--and based on the thing you mentioned you do with a computer--I think that if the extra bit of flow isn't a problem--I'd get the quad!! If you need to work in the 999.99 range--well then, do that!
:)

Welll as If there wasn't enough confusion on my side, I go up to best buy to check everything out, and tell them I didn't want the laptop I ordered. Instead of making me choose or wait to pick another laptop, they just gave me full instore credit. Of $1100. Hmmmmm

I was "supposed " to have computer credit only. But the chick just refunded me on a gift card. So now I could get anything I want. Maybe A. $600 laptop and a few games or blu rays?? Hmmm

So if you guys were looking at instore credit of $1100 that had to be for q laptop then you were told or received a gift card for $1100 would yoasher a cheap computer then go on a shopping spree or get the $1200 laptop you were looking at?
