I tried to intall 256mb into a laptop but nothing hapens, but when I take it out, it works fine or when I put in 128mb chip, whats wrong?

its probably not compatible.

if the laptop is fairly old i would guess that its quite picky about the type of ram that is installed into it.
my best guess is that the new stick is a high density module and that he laptop ins't compatable with such ram.
BTW, whats the make and model of the laptop?
