500 quid budget, main use, for work.

not to bothered on graphics or extras, need a good multitasking cpu.

ebay showed nothing worth the money (all junk)

plz can u give me some guidelines on what im lookin for

If it's just for word processing, listening to music and surfing, a basic entry-level laptop would do the job for you. I think Dell has cheap laptops in the 500$ range (after rebates)

yes its for wp music and maybe a few old games, like delta force/half life

i dont like dell (bad experiences)

if it would be eisier i could upgrade my pc and not bother with a laptop.

the reason im so confused is that laptops rn't very reliable.

Well, you can get more value with your money if you get a desktop than a laptop since desktops are cheaper. But I don't think laptops are generally unreliable. You just need a good, sturdy brand (like Sony, Toshiba or Lenovo) but that's gonna cost $$$ and I don't think you can get one with a 500$ budget :(

And of course, anything needs proper care for it to be "reliable".

Laptops are very reliable. It all depends on how you handle them. Many people have problems due to dropping them or spilling drinks on them, etc. Most consumers have been buying up portability over stationary (laptops over desktops) since the middle of last year. As for 500 quid, you've got a wide range of manufacturers to choose from including Lenovo, Asus, Toshiba, HP/Compaq, etc.

Like I said before- Just about anything. Lenovo N100 & R Series, Asus A Series, multiple HP/Compaq & Toshiba's will fit that price. You'll see a lot of Celerons and lower Pentium M's in your price range. Just go into your local computer store or check out a website within your country. It's not like you're limited to £300 and only a handful of products. Your price bracket is much wider- but of course not as good as a £700 limit. ;)

Yes you can reformat it to whatever you want. Just make sure you've got the software discs if they were included or not. Some manufacturers are skimping out on giving up CD's and just partitioning the HD with the restore information. But if you're the type that never looks back, then format it completely if you like. :D

Yeah, that hidden partition has the restoration info on there, but if you want to put your own operating system, you can. But like I said before you can format it to whatever you want, whether you keep the same partitions or not, you can also format 1 and not the other(s).

looks very slim. but how much is it

and i dont like the reso the gpu can do, i like using 1280 by 1024 as recommended by my optician

would this drastically narrow my choice
