I Want More

I want to try and get some more speed out of my computer. Built it up two years ago around this time with lots of help from this site. Haven't done any overclocking, but am going to attempt some tomorrow (after going through the guides a couple more times). I mainly game on the computer. Most of my computer time seems to be spent playing WoW, while watching movies or Top Gear on my 2nd monitor :D Specs are:

Mobo - Asus P5W Deluxe
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
GPU - Nvidia 8800 GTS
RAM - Corsair XMS2 2Gig 6400 DDR2 800
PSU - Seasonic 550W
HDD - 10k RPM 80Gig

My big questions are:
I'm wondering if I would see a huge difference if I stepped up to some new memory?
I've also been reading reports about this processor being easily clocked to over 3Ghz safely with air cooling (which I have plenty of in my P180). Is this realistic?
Is dual screening significantly harder on the computer?

Thanks for any help.

i suggest use a different forum. the mods here SUCK. if your not christian repent. if you are then praise the lord

qft... i guess...?

If you are on Vista I think you would see a little improvement from 4gb ram, but not XP. Other than that the system looks as though it would be really solid...

Ima try out 4GB as soon as i can spend my moneys :) I currently have 2GB and its not running half bad..:D

Running Xp. Today I swapped in an intel E6750 (which I thought was a E6600) for my E6400. Did notice a bit of extra speed. OC'd my brothers computer (now using my E6400) to match the 2.6Ghz his old processor was putting out. I'll see how far I can take mine tomorrow. Why won't XP benefit from extra memory?

when using dual monitors windows automatically dedicates 30% of the GPU "power" to the secondary monitor, whether its using it or not. With an 8800gts it shouldnt really cause any problems.

I would suggest trying 3GB of RAM, it may not show it all, but its a nice amount (it will use it all if you are using XP 64-bit).

As for overclocking, that can improve it quite a bit, you might want to get another heat-sync if you havent already...helps when overclocking.

4GB ram is pretty cool. For me it helped, but i have a 2.7GHz dual AMD and the 8600GTS

3,0GHz on that proc w/ air cooling i dont thinks is realistic, not with safe temps (i prefer no higher than 55C 100% load. Any more and I wont do it)
