I want to add memory-What do I buy?

I'm sure I posted this before but I did a search and can't find it. Right now I have 512 PC4200 DDR2 RAM. I would at the very least like to double the memory. The MB is a FoxConn 6100 M2MA-RS2H and it's a AMD Sempron 2800+AM2. My system has 4 memory slots(2 yellow-2 blue-by the way does that make a difference?) I have 1 512 stick installed in one yellow slot. To double my memory would it be best to add another 512 stick? If so does it make any difference which slot-yellow or blue-that I install it? What exactly is the type of memory stick that I should buy? The memory stick that is installed is a Kingston. Thanks for your help!

The colour coded slots indicate 2 different channels. It is normal to install a matched pair of sticks, both in the same colour channel, and this is called running in dual channel configuration.

However, the important part of that statement is, matched pair. This means the sticks must be bought together as a matched pair and you can't do any mixing or matching.

So what I would do is to buy a new matched pair of 512mb sticks and put one in each of the yellow slots. RAM is cheap these days, anyway.

Warranty work done

I had some warranty work done last Jan. They had to replace the memory stick so the new stick is only a few months old. I have the box right here and it's a Kingston KVR533D2/512R 512MB PC2-4200 CL4 240-Pin DIMM. Can I just buy a new Kingston stick and install it or would it be best to replace the stick that is only a few months old? Thanks for your help.

If it was mine, I would just buy another stick of Kingston like you already have. You aren't going to hurt anything and you will get the performance gain.
