I want to make a website!

I'm gonna try this Google AdSense thing...
So I need to make a website. Where should I go to create a really good free website? What is the one you use? I've heard some of you saying you have a website and I know some of you do. I'll pay a little if it's worth it.
I'm already having doubts about this thing, but I want to see if it's legit.
I don't even know what my website is going to be about...
What could it be about? lol uuuuggghhh This is stressing me out already.
I want to give up on it, and forget about it, but I'm still really curious to see if it's real.

EDIT: Or it can be a blog. That sounds easier...

you should talk to jtm about making moneyz through a website. he created a nascar fan site thing and he gets cash in the mail everyone once in a while, from a site that doesnt cost him anything. also, look into using a paid hosting service, such as hostgator. cheap, and easy to set up. just check my site for proof lol. www.chrisdubiel.com

OK. Thanks a lot. I'll contact JTM. Nice website by the way.
I think I know what my website/blog is going to be about.
Women Fitness!!
I remember trying to find a forum or site about womens fitness that I liked, and I couldn't find much. So now I'll create something that will give advice, show my journey, and introduce new & easy workout moves to women who are just starting to work out. I've made a couple of my own workout positions while at dance and the gym. So I think I'll actually have a successful site! :D
OK now I'm excited.

Hey sun_kissed, first I would start by getting all your plans and ideas on paper. With things like site goals, your knowledge on the topic, certain features you want. Since it is your first "site" you should look at your options. For easy blogging services there are Blogger and Wordpress. Both are great options and have pros and cons over each other. Since I'm pretty sure you know a lot about fitness you should aim to push out a "blog" or article every other day.

May I ask why you want Google Adsense? are you trying to make money of this site or is it just for fun?

If you do decide to go the blog way (it's a lot less work!) I would at least recommend buying your own domain and then you can change your DNS server so it points to your blog.

If you have any questions let me know. Just make sure you map out your goals first.

That sounds like a great idea, I definitely need to get organized. Those are good suggestions too. I think I will do a blog instead of regular website.

Well both. I would like this blog to be for fun because it seems like something I could really enjoy, but the whole reason why I'm trying this Adsense thing is to see if I can make money. I'm reading this online book thing about the unknown and useful facts about Adsense. Haven't finished it yet. But basically it's telling you that noone will just make money. You have to know what you're doing, and really work hard to get your blog/website noticed.

I will go the blog way and how can I buy my own domain? My mom did this one time for her real estate thing she was doing, but I don't want to ask her because she wont remember or it'll get complicated. What's a DNS server, how do I get one, and which one should I choose?
Thanks so much!!

Blogger will take care of the hosting. What you want to do is buy a domain name (www.fitness---) etc. Once you have the domain you can log into the user settings and set it up to point towards your blog. Blogger allows you to do this for free (use a domain name), Wordpress charges $10 dollars. Also a domain will cost you $10 dollars.

all a dns server does it point your domain to your website. when you go to a website, such as www.google.com, you are actually going to the ip address of googles servers.

a dns server assigns a name to your particular ip address, or in this case, the blog service's ip address.

I know what a domain is, how do I get one? What website do I go to?

So if I had a company name my dns server would assign my company's name to the web address? Still not sure what this all means..
You need to consider HOW you are going to make it too.

Are you going to code it yourself in HTML?
I doubt it. I don't know enough...scratch that, I don't know anything. I know there are web designers that do the encoding for you, but I don't even know where to begin. Does everyone on here that has a website do their own html coding?

If you have no idea about how to develop a website, here is a site that provides information and ratings on a number of open source CMS software.

http://php.opensourcecms.com/

CMS stands for Content Management System and it's usually good for people who want to create and edit a website without having any knowledge in programming.

Good luck!

i will make you a website from start to finish for a much lower fee than you might think, PM me if you are interested
Thanks for the offer, but I want to learn about this and I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy doing it.

Great. Thank you !

HTML is a pretty basic mark up language, you will probably enjoy learning it once you get the basics. CMS software is good but doesn't always get the absolute desired result, if you knew some basic HTML you could use CMS software and your own knowledge to get what you want.

for basic blogs you do not need to know anything about html its mainly rich text for the main body text.

for any html help i suggest webmonkey.com

hope this helps!

OH ok thanks!
You can follow digital point forums. I think it is forum for adsense publisher.
Alrighty thanks
there are 4 important things you need to make a site, or maybe just three, the 4thone, i think can be handled by you alone. :P

First is WEB HOST. Every Site needs one. There's a lot out there. www.hostgator.com - nice
Second, DOMAIN, your URL. www.thenameofyoursite.com. You can buy your own domain at a lot of sites. www.godaddy.com is one.

Third, A FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL Client, FTP CLient, software you use to transfer files from your PC to the Net, world wide web, Through your host.
Filezilla is one.

Fourth, WEB TEMPLATE, or DESIGN. You can do this one, there's a lot of tutorial out there.HTML Coding, Templates for Free. Or you can just buy or download. ;)

Go to this Site : http://www.pcneedz.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=25&p=43#p43

if you want to ask more, or you want to clarify something, you can to www.pcneedz.com You can post your concerns there. There's a Certain category for Website Building.Even Adsense ;)

GoodLuck with that.
I seee. Thank you very much everyone.

You may want to try a WYSIWYG editor so you don't have to code it all manually. That way you design it on a page and it codes it for you. Kompozer is a free one you could try.

This seems like a good free hosting website http://www.nxserve.net/ I have never used them myself but it seems OK (no ads, etc). I used to use host snake but it seems to have disappeared now.

Hope this helps.

Dreamweaver is far better then Kompozer (IMO) but as he says, It's not free! Although you can get a 30 day trial to give it a go and see if you want to buy the full version.

Ok thanks guys. As you know, if you read what I posted in OT, I'm not going to do the blog anymore. I'm eventually (if allowed) going to make a website about my dance group. This will have a lot more purpose, but will probably need much more time put into it. I can't wait till we come up with a name for ourselves because that's when I can make a domain.
