I was quoted by a local shop at $6600 for a new server computer. This number is insane in my books. What can I realistically expect to pay for a server computer? (we run around 20 computers here at work). Plus, we file share from the server.

Without knowing the specs I can't tell you what you should expect to pay. I can tell you a rack mount server generally runs 1k and up. Towers are cheaper. If you just need hardware eBay may be your friend.
I agree with crommewell servers do not come cheap. It depends on what the specs of your hardware is. I would say that this quote is probably pretty close to accurate judging on the size of your network.
