I am about a buy a computer worth about 1,000$ and I was wondering what is better Intel duo or the athlon processor?? also I wanted to know what is the difference between windows xp and vista?? and which one is better? could someone help me with this??

Well, first of all welcome to the forums! :)

Currently you would be better off with an Intel processor. Their CPU's are currently the best for multitasking and for gaming also. AMD is a little bit less efficient but you can get them for a lot less $$$ which makes them perfect for people on a budget. But remember, that doesn't mean that AMD is bad, it is just a cheaper way to go that in most situations meets the situation and even gives more than what you pay for. So in other words If you have a budget of $1000 give yourself the opportuniy to go the Intel way!

And regarding XP and Vista, the main difference that gamers tend to look up to is that Vista supports DirectX10 while XP only supports up to DirectX9.0c I think. Also Vista requires a whole lot more RAM memory, 2GB at least I would say while you can run an XP system with 1GB just fine. But it also depends on what you want to do with the comp

Hope that helped!
;)

Were you planning on buying or building?
I along with a vast majority of the members on this forum would recomend building yourself. Its not nearly as hard to do as it sounds and my fellow CF members would be glad to help you pick out parts.

Intel Quad for that budget. Single core Athlon was last year :D

$1000 after X-Mas would get a even better system. So I suggest waiting.

yea i thought that i would want to buy it before christmas becuase eveything is on sale... and i was thinking about building one but i was not sure... i would want a computer that has decent gb and mb with a good graphics card "becuase i play alot of games like world of warcraft and stuff" and a good processor...

If you are buying a machine, then you can buy before chirsmas as everything on sale.
If you are building one, doesn't matter then.

By the way, is your $1000 need to include monitor, speaker, OS?
Or $1000 just for the PC hardware?

well i already have about 1000$ after christmas i should have more lol but for right now just the pc hardware... now when talking about building your own do you mean "me" building my own hands on or kinda like dell and gateway build one were you just pick out the parts and they put it together? also what is the diffrence from a intel duo from a intel quad is there a big diffrence or just a little? becuase the quad cost quite a bit more then the duo so i just wanted to know...

Intel Core 2 Duo has 2 cores... Intel quad has 4 cores. They vary in speeds, FSB, and cache though.

You live in the US correct? www.newegg.com You basically piece together your own build, and we critique it. After that, you just order it and build it when you get it.

No problem :) Happy to help out people :)

For this other question:

also I wanted to know what is the difference between windows xp and vista??

It's entirely up to you. Vista has some bugs here and there, sucks up alotta RAM, a slight resourse hog, and new... But games run faster and has DX10, and the x64 can support a maximum of 128GB of RAM... (So that'll last it QUITE a long time)

XP on the other hand, is older fashioned, takes up less space, less of a resource hog. But it does not support DX10 or any more than 3.25GB of memory. It is also slower at games, unlike Vista.

To me, I have no support for any of them. I'm neutral. When it's time, I'll upgrade from XP. As for right now, when no games I play use DX10, it's a waste.
