I just built my first web site " http://artforsale.freeiz.com " without fully understanding what I was doing so I would really appreciate advise on how it could be improved or made more interesting.

That's a really nice site. I would change the Contact Me link so that it went to a page w/ your eMail, Cell and PO Box instead of the "mailto:" link...
I would get rid of all that empty space at the bottom. And I don't like the wordart at the top - you might use some sort of imaging editor like GiMP to make something a little more appealing. You're an artist, so you don't want standard ugly block-lettering at the top of your page, right? I used my signature at the top of my site (I'm an amateur at web design too): http://www.jeremydean.co.nr/
And, in the future, you might like to put a flash carousel like this one: http://www.flashcomponents.net/component/carousel_image_menu_xml.html to display your artwork.
But overall, good job. And nice artwork.

Good site! Yes, just improve a bit on the titles and headings. Oh and I love the music too.
