My old computer came with windows xp but no cd.
1. Can i use this folder to do a fresh install after formatting the hard drive? And
2.Can somebody instruct me on how to do it? As i dont want to make a mistake and lose it all!

The system is still completely standard and i own the product key.

I'm fairly certain you require the install cd to do a re-install, there really isn't any way around it. If its an older computer that isn't depended on, you could try Ubuntu out on it as a free alternative, but if you require windows, you're going to need the cd.

Dam im sure i read somewhere that this is possible, Ok thanks.

If your pc is prebuild like a Hp,Dell etc then they usualy put a Recovery Partition on the hard drive which you can boot into by pressing one of the F keys so it could be like

F1 or F6 and that will start the recovery and will be just like re-installing windows again.

Whats the system?
