hello,
im new to overclocking and i found out that the i5 750 works stable at about 3.8ghz. i was wondering if i keep it like that permantly will it do damage to the processor or will that happnen if i go higher.

also does anyone have recommnedations for programs to test/benchmark?

tia and sorry if i sould like an idiot im completely new to this

Which CPU cooler are you using? If you're still using the stock cooler, I am truly amazed O.O

As long as your case cooling and CPU cooling is sufficient, more than enough, and works perfectly, you will maintain your CPU's life.

As long as you have sufficient cooling to ge the overclocked CPU cool it should'nt damage the CPU if you do it correctly.

Prime95 is a good program to see how stable your overclock is. 3DMark06 is a great benchmark program too. Download a program like Real Temp to monitor your temperatures aswell.

Hard. It is a pain in the bum to OC one of them :/

 Whatever noob. It's no different than any non-BE AMD cpu.

3.8ghz, on what voltage? Do you have CPUz? Check to see what kind of voltage it's running if you put it on auto. And also, as others mentioned download ''Real Temp'' for CPU temperature monitoring and also Prime95 for a CPU stress test.

Its not hard at all. Make sure you turn the VDROOP setting in BIOS to LOW or OFF whichever your BIOS lists as the lowest. You prolly won't be able to get much out of it without errors until you do that.
For cooling get a Corsair H50 and be done with it. Very small footprint does excellent job. As good or better then ANY of the HUGE heatsinks with a fan.
Doesn't matter what kind of case you have. You could have your system in a shoe box with the H50 and hit 4GHz.
Cool it just released a cooler like the H50 also. Prolly worth checking out
Be warned... people who dont have it will talk **** about the H50. those who do have it will let you know its a great cooler.

The H50 is a decent cooler, just sometimes a pain to fit the radiator. The lines are really short, so the rad can't be mounted in the front of the case. If you have a top fan, you're golden. I've also seen some people mount the rad with the rear fan, but it looks like crap IMO although very functional. Your choice, I'd personally just get a good air cooler though. The other thing that can wear out is the fan, not so with an H50.
