You'd generally want to get the M.2 version as it has a larger bus to the drive.

One last question - is there any reason not to get a M.2-2280 form factor Samsung SSD instead of the 2.5" SATA? Price is $4 difference so negligible.

Do you have the links to the said drives? It really depends if the m.2 ssd is on the nvme controller or is it just a regular sata controller in a m.2 form.

At that point do you think it is worth the extra $35 +/- for my needs? I am guessing not but i am really just learning.

Considering its like 6 times faster at reading then a regular SSD, definitely worth it. I'm gonna get one. Really all just depends on what you want.
