Newegg has 2 combo packages im looking at. One has the i5 and I would have to get a HDD. The other has the i7 and lacks a graphics card. Would be used for WoW, maybe other games, music, and web. Should I spend the extra 50 bucks for the i7?
The i7 will future proof you a little further. But the i5 is still a very nice processor. You probably won't know any difference, but it will be faster.
If the i5 is Sandy Bridge then it is surely a quad core, go for the i5. All i5 Sandy Bridge CPUs can handle all games but make sure you also have a good GPU coming with it.
i5 is available on 2 sockets one is the 1156 the older one and then the sandy bridge is on 1155 the new.
According to rumours the new intel socket would be 2011.
The sandy bridge i5 and i7 are both CPU based on the 1155 socket. So if the i5 socket were not supported in the future neither would the i7s be supported.
