I am kind of new to this. Is it difficult to change the settings of the i7 920 so that it can utilize DDR3 1600 instead of DDR3 1066?

No, it's a piece of cake, depending on the Motherboard.

Mine was easy.

You just enter the correct timings in the BIOS, save and Exit.

Where do you get the correct timing from?

I've got 1600 RAM - but still have it running at 1033 - where it defaulted with. It was my first build - and fast enough - so I didn't get overly technical with it.

I blew my budget with my PC build - didn't have alot of $ room for error if I messed things up.

See how they all list a "Timing". That's what you change in the BIOS.

Thanks,

I just changed it - and it's not logging at 1600mhz.

2 questions.

1) My RAM packaging says 1.6-1.65 volts. When I changed the timing - the voltage went up from the default of 1.5v - to 1.6-1.75. The top end is .10v higher than recommended - is that something I should be concerned about. I couldnt' find a way to change that number manually.

2) I got a message when saving the BIOS settings.
the following changes will reduce the lifetime of CPU, DRAM, or CHIPSET. Do you want to continue and save settings

Is it pretty safe to ignore that message - or do I need to go back and change something.

Edit: I just tested COD 4 - The game movement is noticably faster with the change in settings :good:

Thanks
