i7 930 are now available at newegg

Whats the difference even? Its the same socket as the 920 and everything.. The only difference is that little bit of extra stock clock speed

Yeah slightly higher clock speed, but the main thing is because it has a higher stock clock is has a higher multiplier.

The 920 has a multiplier of 20, and the 930 has 21. That helps a good bit for overclockers.

Multi isnt going to help you overclock much if at all,and the general consensus on these chips is that they are binned lower than the i7 920's are, so your chances of getting a great clocking 930 are pretty low.

So 920s are better/price when you buy them from Microcenter?

I have been planning a new build and was stuck between the 920 and 860. Now this 930 which is in the same ballpark in price.

My thought was that the 900 series processors mobo's 1366's run triple channel memory and the 1156 mobos run dual.

Is there much difference between the two? And am I correct about the mobo's between the two sockets?

What is the general consensus on what processor is best between the three?

Sure it would, the lower the base clock the better chance of a higher overclock, especially with lower end motherboards.

I've had an I3 530 and a 540. The 530 got to 4.7ghz, the 540 got to 5ghz same settings.

As for them being binned lower, well I didn't know that.

What im saying is since they are binned lower, you arent going to get as good of an overclock:P (on a good motherboard that is)

Yah, I figure the 920 is still damn great. The 930 isn't out of my league, it's just not in my sights. 920 for me.

Almost always $199.

Edit, didn't see this went to the second page. My i5-750 was $149 and they recently had the i7-860 for $199. The prices change there but they are usually the best by far.

I had to travel today but they had a 5970 show up local for $599, did not last long, it was gone tonight.
