i7 for gaming

Im sure this gets asked alot. But how much better is the i7 for gaming vs the big quad cores like the phenom II's and so on? Is it worth the $650 price tag for a mobo and i7? Cause i just sold alot of parts from my car build and im really thinkin about buildin a mean computer with an i7 and asus rampage II Extreme.

If you combine with Ati graphics they are better. Is it worth the price hmmm I dont think so but other will say different Im sure.

If you combine with Nvida graphics the Phenom II performs better (there's this unknown thing about i7 in regards to Nvida, and no one yet has found out exactly what is causing it)

Like I said above... Im not really statisfied that the increased cost is worth the extra performance.. Thats why lots of people/websites say that currently Phonem II's hold the price/performance crown.
And especially if you only have Nvida graphics cause then the Phonem II's will perform better.

AM3 is the newest AMD socket which will be used for a long time (well the forseeable future) just like the 1366 but at like half the price or more.

I think almost all gamers would be satisfied with a system that uses a Phenom II Quad-Core processor. Intel knows the i7 is the best on the market presently and they price it accordingly.

I look at it this way. In five years are you going to care that you bought a system that is somewhat slower than the top of line? But in five years you might have buyers remorse that you paid $150 more for your system.
