IBM Thinkpad 600e

Hi all, I am new to the forums..

So recently i got a laptop IBM think-pad from my cosine and i poped in a new hard drive and all it got about 256GB RAM and a Pentium 2 processor now my question is what could be the best OS to install on it that is free and can run fast?

I tried damsmalllinux but I have the interface of it and do not want to use it.

You could give Haiku a try, but with such an old machine it'll be hard to find something to install.

If that os don work for you, then try XP. Is sill supported ill next year.

I should run on your hardware

The minimum hardware requirements for Windows XP Professional include:
Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)
At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
Keyboard and a Microsoft Mouse or some other compatible pointing device
Video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution
Sound card
Speakers or headphones

I personally run 2kpro on a 600e with 256 and a P2 400mhz and it runs fine.
