IBM Thinkpad How Do You Close Case Without it Shutting Down?

I appologize in advance for this stupid question but I never had a laptop (notebook) before & my Thinkpad T23 which I bought used & works great didn't come with instructions. Anyway, can someone tell me how I can shut the monitor straight into the latch so its physically locked shut without powering down the laptop. I hope this question makes sense. I don't want to have to reboot it, each time I close it. Thanks for any knowledge.
 
Control Panel> Power Options> Advanced tab> Set "When I close the lid of my portable computer" to "Do nothing". Click Apply and you're done. :D
