IBM Thinkpad Win Xp Machine Randomly locking up

It will just stop Dead and become a vegetable. I'll have to force a reset. Has been happening over the last month. The battery recently stopped holding a charge in this period and is still present in the machine. I'm running on mains power. Can anyone help me?

If it just randomly freezes it's either bad RAM or a motherboard issue. Is it a T42 by chance?

it's a T60. All hardware checks pass. Just stops dead with no HDD LED activity and the music I'm playing judders until I hard reset...
