IBM Thinkpad won't boot

I have an IBM thinkpad t42 and it will not boot, I tried f8 to get safe mode to display with no luck, tried remove battery. , I always get the the same screen with just a blinking cursor in the top left screen and I do not get passed that, any ideas?

What operating system are you running? XP?

Did you do anything leading up to this? Other problems?
