IBMX40 - USB not working

Hi guys, I am encounterin' some problems with my USB of my laptop and hope u guys can help me out with them.
I am currently usin' an IBM X40 laptop. Things have been workin' fine. Since I had too many craps on my comp, I decided to format my C: to reinstall XP (SP2). However, I was playin' games on my comp last week. My comp encountered a power shortage problem or watever problems along those lines, it rebooted itself all of a sudden. Since then, none of my 2 USB ports are workin'. To further clarify myself, I can tell that the computer detects the devices, includin' mouse, flash key and CD-Rom, however, I can access none of these USB devices successfully. I tried to delete all the USB deivers from the device manager and let XP reload them, nothing seems to have changed. And I also checked my BIOS, USB ports are all enabled.
I am wondering what is wrong with my computer. Do u guys have any clues what's goin' on or wat I should try to do to fix my computer.
Thx.

When you reinstalled Windows was that with the recovery disk that comes with the unit or was that a disk you bought separately? It sounds like mother board drivers/softwares didn't go in fully or the recovery partition information was lost. Or the usb port went bad. Is there more then one port on that model?

you should try going to the manufacturer website and make sure you have the most recent drivers for your hardware

There are 2 USB ports on my laptop...
they worked perfectly fine after I reinstalled XP...
but few days ago, my laptop rebooted itself all of a sudden when I was playin' a flash game...after the reboot, dat's when the ports dun function properly

The best thing to try at this time once you know which drivers are needed or at least have a driver update to work with is to completely remove the current inactive driver set and restart the system to allow Windows to freshly detect the neew hardware found. At that time if you are using a download you simply close that out and use the installer. Windows should see a message stating that the drivers for hardware found are being installed. Unless the usb controllers went out that should set the new drivers active.

I was checkin' on the IBM official site for thinkpad X40 drivers. However, it seems that no drivers are required for USB for model X40. I did try to delete all the USB found in device manager and let XP freshly reload them, my optical mouse is still not workin', and so are other USB devices.
I don't know what to do...><

Hopefully the ports are still good and didn't simply quit on you. The one thing you could try is going into the bios to see if the usb controllers are still enabled and temporarily disable them. After restarting and reaching the desktop run it for a few minutes and restart to re-enable them. That might force Windows to make them active. Another idea is to clear the cmos and then make sure the controllers are set active. That would indicate an error in the bios programming itself. Perhaps even a bios update could rule out a hardware problem.
