IceQ 4 4870 1GB vs 512MB ?

Prolly cuz the 512mb is older and newegg is upcharging incase someone who already has one wants to buy another to crossfire their current one.

The 512mb model is cheaper than the 1gb model here in the USA. Its $194 for the 512mb and $199 for the 1GB.

I've seen all of the 4870's drop around $160 lately, so I would go for it if you need it. The IceQ is a great cooler. If you wait for a video card to get cheaper, you're also decreasing the amount of time that you can have it before it becomes obsolete. So aside from huge rebates, just buy whenever you have the money. I think all video card prices are justified.

yeah, Highly recommend the IceQ's. My 4850 sits at about 40c at idle, pushed to hit 55-60 under load. The fan never goes above 55% for these temps. If I crank the fan at idle I've seen it go as low as 26c:O Which I think is pretty good for a card thats notorious for being hot.

the Saphire card i have has the fan in the center, should i install the IceQ, wich has the fan at the end, above or below the Saphire?
i figure if i install the IceQ above the Saphire, it can draw fresh air coming from the front of the case.
if i install the Saphire above the IceQ, it would draw warm air from the IceQ, right?

They are both the same length, so the IceQ would still draw a little warm air from the other card. I suppose you bring up a good point, if it matters at all you could set the IceQ on top. Usually Crossfire boards have the PCIe slots spaced 3 apart so this isn't too big of an issue.

To be honest, I'm not sure it'd be a huge difference either way. Nothing performance breaking for sure, but it is a very interesting point, I've never even thought of something like that. I'd put it on top though if it came down to it, because this way (if it does even do much of anything) the IceQ will draw away heat from the Sapphire's back, cooling the hotter card from both sides while putting the better cooling card to work. I'd think it would help even out the temps.
