Ok, i recently purchased the NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 card for my emachines T2893 cpu, yea i kno its a mean machine lol, but i just installed it with the drivers and everything. My problem is, whenever i hook the monitor up to the new video card, only the background appears, no start menu or icons or anything, but when i hook it back up to the integrated card, everything is fine. If i disable the integrated card and uninstall it, will the desktop move from the integrated card to the new card?

You shouldn't have to disable the onboard video. I didn't have to on my daughters computer when i added a separate video card and everything worked ok. But go ahead and try disabling it in the bios and then see if that fixes the problem. Most likely i'm assuming something is wrong with the new card.

I think the problem is that its decided to use extended desktop or something. If you have 2 monitors try plugging one into the onboard and one into the card and see what you get on the screen. If you get the desktop up on one of them them go to control panel -> display properties -> settings click identify so you know which display you want to use then click on that display (in the grey box) click "use this device as my primary monitor" then click on the other display and uncheck the box that says extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" then apply and all should be fine. if it still happens after you disable the onboard try plugging a monitor in both outputs on your card and do what I just said. Hope this helps

I had that exact same problem before with my emachine and fx5500. Your computer is still displaying the primary desktop through your integrated video. You need to go into display property and disable the monitor that is hooked up to whatever integrated video you have, and then set your current monitor to "primary monitor".
