so ive built my computer and now im trying to install XP pro onto it. the screen is telling me its installing different software etc. but then a screen pops up saying this

"a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. if this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen restart your computer. if this screen appears again, follow these steps.
-check to be sure you have adequate disk space. if a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. try changing video adapters.
-check with your hardware vendor for any bios updates. disable bios memory options such as caching or shadowing. if you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced start up options, and then select safe mode

Ive tried plainly to restart my computer, and i get the same thing. ive also gone into my bios and looked for any "memory caching or shadowing" as stated above, but didnt find anything. can anyone give me a few pointers?

At what point do you get this message? Are you at the stage where it says how minuts are left to install? Or is this at the beginning when its transferring files to memory to install windows?

i believe its right after the transfer to memory it goes through all of the drivers and says now "starting windows" it goes black and then BAM! bsod

Either one of a few things possible.

1. bad hard drive
2. You are using an original XP install cd with no service pack installed
3. Your motherboard is an older one and you need to slipstream the sata controller driver into a new install cd.
4. You have a bios setting for the sata controller set to ahci/raid instead of IDE/compatibility.

What motherboard are you using?

it is an original disk with not service packs, new hard drive (doesnt mean it cant be bad) its a new motherboard Asus P7H55 M LX, and the sata controller is set to IDE

Does the bios recognize the hard drive? If there is no service pack applied to this cd, then I highly recommend slipstreaming SP3 into a new install cd and then try installing windows.

Use a program called autostreamer to do the job.

Instructions are pretty straightforware. The software will create an ISO file in which you will need to use burning software to burn the image to a cd.

Here is a guide on how to do it.

- Ensure that all components are in correctly for your computer.
- Has this CD that you have ever worked for you before?
- Try copying the CD to another CD, as there might be scratches on the CD you are copying from.
If this does not work,
- Try installing the OS without any of the MAJOR components for the computer (sound card, usb PCI card, video card if you can). Try installing the OS.
If this still doesn't work, try getting the system to boot up a live linux CD and see if it works. If it does, then you will have no other choice but to do what johnb35 says.

well when i was first trying to install it there werent any accessories installed on the computer hardware wise, just memory, hdd, and a dvd drive. ya the disk has worked before too. i also tried to slipstream the disk as well and still nothing. so i decided to go get an oem windows 7 64 bit os from DIT computers, and it went as smooth as peanut butter(obviously not chunky haha) it might have been a combination of things such as this, from the motherboards manufacturers site: 2 x DIMM, Max. 8 GB, DDR3 1333/1066 Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory
Dual Channel memory architecture
When installing total memory of 4GB capacity or more, Windows 32-bit operation system may only recognize less than 3GB. Hence, a total installed memory of less than 3GB is recommended.

i had 4 gb of memory and even tried taking one out to go down to 2 gb but still nothing.

and my cpu is a 64 bit cpu so all those things might have made a problem with the install. but as of now im writing this from my new computer, so far its all good! thanks for your input guys
