I'd like to up grade my memory from 2* 256Mb (512) DDR2 to 2* 1Gb (2Gb)DDR2

i have a dell inspiron 6000 with an intel celeron M processor 1.5 MHZ

Would like to know if my processor can support it.

One review shows the cpu being a 1.6 GHz Intel Pentium M 730 (Sonoma), 533MHz FSB and PCIe x16 chipset. If there are extra dimms slots for expansion you shouldn't see any problem adding in additional DDR2 400 memory of the same type.

A few of the older versions of 9x Windows saw limitations when going over 512mb of memory. That won't have any bearing on the cpu.

The actual specifications couldn't be found at Dell since that's an older laptop now discontinued and no longer sees a product listing. You'll likely find that it will max at 2gb of memory where you can use four 512mb sodimms to replace the pair of 256s the unit came with. Refer to the user manual if you still have that since there's likely a specifications page in that.

Having the actual product specifications does far more good then relying on any of the scanners they put on those sites. Some have ended up buying the wrong memory at times due to one of them showing memory that wasn't supported by the board.

You may actually find actual specs that are accurate by simply searching EBay or amazon.com for finding one being sold on one of those sites. But the even faster and more reliable method is a free system information tool that will show the speed and how much memory is already installed as well as other information.

This little quick download simply requires a right click on the file to create a desktop shortcut and drag that onto the desktop for use. The System Info for Windows(SIW) is good for just about any system for seeing a breakdown of things. http://www.gtopala.com/
