I wish to install Windows XP Professional on this HP Omnibook 500 that someone gave me because it had a problem they could not fix. I found that it is an issue with the video card. I think they tried to install an incompatible driver or something. I had the idea of removing the Hard Drive and using an IDE adapter to hook up the hard drive to my regular pc. I have to do this because the laptop has no cd or floppy drive and it will not boot from the external cd drive and it is cheaper to buy a 5 dollar IDE adapter. Anywho, I plug it into my pc and put the XP cd into the cd drive and install it like regular. Has anyone around here done something like this? I am gonna do it next week and I thought I would gather some info and any stories would help. I am sure the procedure should work just fine...unless anyone here has had any particularly bad experiences? :D

So are you planning to install WinXP on the notebook HD (in the desktop) and then transfer it to the notebook? Well it'll work installing onto the notebook HD, you will have to try to troubleshoot all the incompatibilities when you start up on the notebook though.

Correct. More than likley, the computer will not boot into Windows if you do this, because of the changes in hardware.
 
Yeah. I decided not to. It is too risky. I tried booting from a floppy but I could not access the C drive for some reason. I've decided to just give it to a friend of my father's who works with computers. He should be able to fix the issue. Thanks guys.
