IDE Boot failure

Hi guys,

Just built a new computer with a couple of old parts in there.

I'm using 2 ide devices on a new motherboard, the motherboard supports sata.
However, i don't have any sata devices and didn't plan on buying any at the moment.

I tried booting with the IDE HDD as a master, and a DVD burner as a slave.

When i turned on the computer for the first time, :D, it says "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT DISK AND PRESS ENTER"

Is this because i'm using my IDE device to boot? I'm guessing i have to buy a new sata hdd. I don't mind doing so though...

Oh crap i just realised, windows was originally on a different hdd.
so the only way to fix this problem is if i install windows on it right? (which will require me to format, right?)

If it's a brand new hard drive, yes you have to partition/format it. You can just do a quick format if that's the case. Either way, yes you need to install an OS.
