IDE cable problem

I'm taking a LabelFlash DVD R/W drive out of my Gateway LX6810. I'm replacing it with a Sony 20x DVD R/W. The problem is the cables. In the Gateway case, the power/drive cables look like they're proprietary. Just two thin plugs that go into the DVD drive (no 40 pin, etc.).

So I go to put the Sony in, and obviously it doesn't fit with the cable, as it has the regular 4-prong power cable and the 40 pin (with the 20 pin missing) for the drive. I got to looking at the motherboard, and found a plug on it, however while the plug is 40-pin, it is missing the "3 pin" instead of the 20 pin, so my cable doesn't work with it.

So my question is, does anyone know of a master/slave 40 pin cable that has the #20 pin missing the master end, and the #3 pin missing on the CPU board end? Or is there an adapter than can go from #20 pin missing to #3 pin missing?

The Gateway LabelFlash drive uses SATA, whereas your Sony uses IDE. I am in question on what it is you are saying about the IDE cable and slots...

I think he is referring to the slot on the motherboard for the fdd..... But the small slot that is about 1/2" is SATA, and the wider one beside it is the sata power connector.

Ahhh, so the plug is SATA, okay.

See the problem is i really didn't know what I was talking about, but was trying to make a post people could understand and maybe help me with, lol. So i need to go find a SATA DVD player and that should fit right in.

Thanks!
